In the days leading up to the passing of the 2014 Designer Anabolic Steroid Control Act, IronMag Labs was not idle, but hard at work on the 4th incarnation in the Super DMZ series—Super DMZ 4.0. With nearly every steroidal compound now on the banned substance list, this was no easy task. Fortunately, an oversight on the government’s behalf allowed a particular class of prohormones to sneak by this new legislation, providing the consumer with continued access to hormonal agents.
Naturally, IML chose to include these compounds within their new formulation, but they didn’t stop there. Also included in Super DMZ 4.0 are adaptogens, anabolic amplifiers, and selective androgen receptor modulators, but before I go into further detail, let’s be frank for a second. The recent steroid control act struck a huge blow to the OTC steroid industry. For the most part, it killed it. So devastating was the ban that most of the companies that sold these products either went out of business or gave up on this sector of the industry altogether. With the illegalization of all active steroids and most prohormones, there was very little room for the production of an effective, steroid-based supplement.
Knowing that there are those of you who refuse to go the illegal route, IML stuck to its roots and made it work. However, in order to produce a product capable of providing steroid-like results, it became clear that relying on prohormones alone just wasn’t good enough. IML needed a comprehensive, synergistic array of ingredients that when combined, could legitimately claim to provide gains in muscle mass comparable to steroids. If it was going to carry the DMZ name, anything less would have been a failure.
Super DMZ 4.0 is a combination of 7 different compounds, some of which may be familiar to you and others which are recent additions to the marketplace. The anabolic backbone is a hormonal quartet comprised of Super 4-DHEA, Super 1-DHEA, Super 5-DHEA, and Super Epi-Andro. The first of these, Super 4-DHEA, is a prohormone to testosterone. A 2 step conversion away from testosterone, Super 4-DHEA must first convert to 4-androstenediol (4-AD) before converting to testosterone. Although its conversion rate to testosterone is low, it converts readily to 4-AD, which has considerable anabolic potency and from which the majority of Super 4-DHEA’s muscle building effects are derived.
Super 1-DHEA is a prohormone to the powerful 1-testosterone (dihydroboldenone), but like 4-DHEA, it must also undergo a 2 step conversion process before becoming 1-testosterone (1-dhea= 1-adrostenediol= 1-testosterone). While its conversion rate to 1-testosterone is slightly better than 4-DHEA, it has a high conversion rate to 1-androstenedoil (1-AD), which is a potent steroid in its own right and responsible for the majority of its anabolic effects. Those of you who have been around a while may remember 1-AD as the first OTC prohormone to produce steroid-like results.
Both 1-AD and 1-testosterone are highly anabolic and non-aromatizing, so gains will be hard and dry. Those who have experience with these hormones have compared them to Primobolan in their effects. This makes them great stackers with the more androgenic 4-AD/ testosterone, both of which are capable of aromatization. Although estrogen is frequently demonized due to its ability to cause unwanted side effects, the reality is that some estrogen is desirable, as it is necessary for both maximizing mass gain and maintaining overall health. Estrogen conversion with Super 4-DHEA is slight, thereby providing the beneficial effects of estrogen without the unwanted side effects.
The 3rd prong in the stack, Super Epi-Andro is a prohormone to DHT. With DHT being one of the most androgenic steroids in existence, users can expect increased strength via nervous system enhancement, an alpha male mind-set, and greater muscle hardness and density. The final steroidal compound is Super 5-DHEA. Like Super 4-DHEA, this compound is a 2 step conversion away from testosterone, but its primary benefits are not of an anabolic nature. Rather, the majority of its positive effects come by way of increased insulin sensitivity, enhanced immune function, and conversion to 7-keto DHEA, which imparts a thermogenic effect.
One major complaint associated with the oral consumption of regular DHEA-based prohormones is their low bioavailability. In order to improve the pharmacokinetic profile of these agents and boost absorption rate, IML has altered their molecular structure through the attachment of an enanthate ester (esterification). Going by current estimates, this should increase bioavailability roughly 30% over what is seen with traditional DHEA-based prohormones. As an added benefit, the esterification process also results in an increased level of purity.
Further boosting the effectiveness of these compounds is the inclusion of 6,7-dihydrogergamottin, or DHB, for short. Similar to the process of esterification, DHB improves the bioavailability of many drugs, among which are those included in Super DMZ 4.0, but it does so through a different mechanism. In this instance, DHB inhibits the activity of the enzyme cytochrome P450 3A, which not only increases absorption rate, but the drugs’ half-life, as well.
In addition to the prohormones above, IML chose to include the most successful selective androgen receptor modulator (S.A.R.M) to date—ostarine. Typically sold solo, ostarine was the first SARM to produce steroid-like effects, being comparable to AAS such as Anavar, Turinabol, or Primobolan in terms of lean mass gain. Unlike many steroids, side effects with ostarine are basically non-existent. Visually, gains are hard and dry, with many users attesting to decreases in bodyfat.
The last compound on the list is 5a-Hydroxy Laxogenin. Originally discovered in the 1960’s, Laxogenin later became a point of interest for Russian researchers, who concluded that this steroidal saponin elevated protein synthesis in humans by over 200%. It should be noted that an increase of this magnitude is usually only witnessed with AAS. For the sake of comparison, a 200 mg injection of testosterone enanthate increases protein synthesis around 250%. Laxogenin is what’s known as an adaptogen; a class of natural metabolic regulators which increase the ability of an organism to adapt to environmental factors and to avoid damage from such factors. In addition, anecdotal reports indicate that Laxogenin is effective at increasing strength, with many users claiming measurable increases in strength within 1-2 weeks of use.
One significant difference between Super DMZ 4.0 and previous versions is the absence of methylated drugs within the product. This means no more liver stress and a significant reduction in cardiovascular risk. With these limitations removed, users are no longer restricted to 4 week cycles, but now have the freedom to stay on for an extended period of time without fear of elevated liver enzymes or serious damage to the lipid profile.
The 2014 Anabolic Steroid Control Act may have changed the OTC steroid landscape, but it didn’t sterilize it. So long as IronMagLabs is able, it will continue producing the best hormonal products possible. Super DMZ 4.0 is a testament to that fact, and while we may rightfully lament the loss of our designers and prohormones, those who chose to remain within the boundaries of legality are still able to achieve steroid-like results with a completely legal product…and that product is Super DMZ 4.0.
