Manufacturing facility in Miami Lakes to shutter after Vitamin Shoppe sale
Nutri-Force Nutrition, the former manufacturing arm of New Jersey-based Vitamin Shoppe Inc., will permanently close its Miami Lakes facility and lay off 210 workers.
Earlier this month, Vitamin Shoppe (NYSE: VSI) sold the company to Arizona Nutritional Supplements (ANS), a contract and private label manufacturer of vitamins, minerals and supplements. It was announced that the majority of Nutri-Force's productions would move to Chandler, Arizona, where its new owner is based.
Nutri-Force then filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN), stating it would shutter the business at 14620 N.W. 60th Ave.
Employees will be laid off starting July 12. They include managers, warehouse workers, housekeepers, manufacturing specialists, pharmacists and mechanics. It's unclear whether the workers were offered jobs at the Arizona facility. Calls to Nutri-Force's manager of human resources went unanswered.
Vitamin Shoppe's net proceeds from Nutri-Force's sale were about $15 million, according to a quarterly announcement from the company. Its net loss from Nutri-Force in the first quarter was $13.5 million.
