AHCC increases chances of survival after being infected with a deadly virus
ahcc-structure.jpg
Supplementation with AHCC, a sugar chain from shiitake, protects against deadly viruses. In an American animal study, AHCC keeps mice alive that are infected with a virus that should have killed the animals under different circumstances.Study
According to the media experts who inform the illiterate mass, we do not have to worry about dangerouns virus strains like 2019-nCoV.

Of course they are right. After all, media experts are always right. But because we are not only arrogant but also paranoid in nature, we have started to delve into potentially interesting immunostimulants. Such as AHCC, a beta glucan from shiitake.

Results

American researchers at Drexel University published an animal study in 2009 in which they infect mice through the nose with an influenza A-H1N1-Pr8 virus.A week before the researchers infected the mice, they also started giving different doses of AHCC to most animals. The supplementation continued after the infection.
Results
The mice that did not receive AHCC all died on day 7 after the infection. Supplement with the lightest dose that the researchers tried had no effect, but supplementation with heavier doses kept mice alive.

If the mice had been human, supplementation with 600-800 milligrams of AHCC per day would have provided a survival rate of 25 percent. At a dose of 3-4 grams per day [which, by the way, is the maximum dose that most supplement makers recommend], the chance of survival was 50 percent. The researchers suspect that AHCC is preparing the immune system for infection, so to speak. They saw that Natural Killer cells were able to eliminate germs more successfully.
Conclusion
"In this study, low-dose supplementation (0.1 g/kg per day), which is equivalent to approximately 500 mg/d in humans, improved virus clearance and Natural Killer cell lytic efficiency", the researchers summarize their findings.

"Taken together, our studies in [...] mice suggest that AHCC supplementation induces immune-enhancing effects at doses that are equivalent to 500 mg to 5 g/d in humans."
"Importantly, supplementation with AHCC at these doses was well tolerated."
