A capsule of MSM per day reduces wrinkles in a few months

MSM, a dirt cheap organic sulfur compound that you can buy at almost any drug store, is a skinceutical. American researchers experimented with people aged 35-69, and found that even with a modest intake of 1 gram of MSM per day, facial wrinkles get smaller and can even disappear completely.

Sounds promising. Still, we feel compelled to say right away that the study's lead researcher, Rodney Benjamin, is affiliated with Bergstrom Nutrition, the producer of OptiMSM. Benjamin has published quite a few interesting studies on the biological effect of MSM. [researchgate.net]Study 1
The researchers divided 20 subjects into 2 groups. One group took 3 grams of MSM daily for 16 weeks, the other a placebo. During that time, the researchers saw the wrinkles in the corners of the eyes of the subjects partially disappear in the MSM group.

Study 2
In a second study, the researchers compared the effect of supplementation with 1 gram of MSM with that of supplementation with 3 grams of MSM per day. For this purpose, they divided a group of 63 subjects into 2 groups, in an experiment that took 16 weeks.

The number of wrinkles and/or the size of the facial wrinkles decreased in both groups.

Conclusion
"The results of this study suggest that MSM taken orally may be beneficial for skin health and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, at a dose as low as 1 grams a day", write the researchers.
