How propolis blocks skin aging
propolis-liquid-supplement-tincture.jpg
Supplementation with propolis, the waxy substance with which bees build their nests, can slow down skin aging. South Korean biotechnologists come to this conclusion in an in vitro study published in Nutrients.Study
The Koreans exposed human skin cells in test tubes to ultraviolet radiation, which damaged the collagen structures in the cells. UV radiation is the main cause of skin aging.

This increases the activity and production of the enzyme MMP1 in the cells. MMP1 breaks down collagen.
Results
Flu symptoms decreased equally in both groups. The differences shown below were not significant.

When the researchers exposed the cells to propolis extract [PPE], this reduced the activity of MMP1. The greater the concentration, the greater the effect.

The researchers repeated their experiments with pieces of human skin tissue and found the same effects. You can see that above.Mechanism
MMP1 is activated by the enzyme phospho-inositide-3-kinase (PI3K). The researchers discovered that propolis blocks this phospho-inositide-3-kinase.

When they investigated which components of propolis caused this effect, it turned out that it was primarily the work of caffeic acid phenethyl ester, and second and third of quercetin and apigenin.
