Cinnamon fights migraines

When migraine patients take three capsules of cinnamon powder every day, their migraine problems drastically decrease. Their attacks decrease in frequency, disappear more quickly, and are less severe.Inflammation
Some researchers suspect that migraine attacks are the result of inflammatory responses in the brain, triggered by factors such as interleukin-6 and nitric oxide. Because cinnamon has an anti-inflammatory effect, nutrition scientists at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences wanted to investigate whether cinnamon supplementation can relieve migraines.

Study

The researchers divided 43 subjects aged 20-50, who all frequently suffered from migraines, into two groups. For 60 days, subjects in one group took a placebo every day, while subjects in the other group took 3 capsules of cinnamon daily. The cinnamon was in capsules, and each capsule contained 600 milligrams of Cinnamomum zeylanicum bark. The subjects took 3 capsules every day - a total of 1800 milligrams.
The subjects took one capsule with each meal - breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Results
Cinnamon supplementation reduced the number of migraine attacks, the duration of the attacks and the severity of the attacks.

The researchers found less nitric oxide and interleukin-6 in the blood of the subjects in the experimental group after 60 days of supplementation. Therefore, the researchers suspect that cinnamon soothes migraines by dampening inflammatory processes.
Conclusion
"These findings merit further confirmation in larger trials", write the researchers.
