Curcumin increases the muscle strength of people over 65
Give men and women over 65 a capsule of curcumin every day and their muscle strength will increase. Without training. Researchers from the private research company Aurea Biolabs report this in a publication that will soon be published in the Journal of Medicinal Food.Study
The researchers divided 30 people over 65 into 2 groups. The subjects in one group took a placebo daily for 3 months, while the subjects in the experimental group took daily supplements containing the curcumin extract Curit. According to studies by its producer, the bio-availability of Curit is a factor ten higher than that of regular curcumin.
The study does not explicitly disclose how much curcumin the subjects used, but we suspect they used a 500-milligram capsule daily.

The research was sponsored by the Indian Plant Lipids, the producer of Curit.
Results
Curcumin supplementation increased the force with which the subjects could squeeze a dynamometer with their hands, as well as the total number of times the subjects could squeeze this device. The effects were modest, but good: they were there.

The researchers got the subjects to walk, climb stairs and cycle until they became tired. The researchers discovered a trend that curcumin supplementation extended that time span. The researchers attribute the positive effects of curcumin to, among other things, the neutralization of inflammatory proteins such as TNF-alpha, the activation of antioxidant enzymes such as HO-1 and the deactivation of TXNIP.
Conclusion
"Cureit supplementation restores the normalcy of muscular strength as well as helps in the restoration of muscle mass by a reduction in muscle catabolism", write the researchers.
"Cureit [...] may be a safe and effective alternative to the modern treatment modality in the management of sarcopenia. Further studies of longer duration and larger sample size can be designed to assess long-term effects and the comparative efficacy with already existing treatments."
