Date palm seed tea increases testosterone levels

Before eating dates, you remove the seeds. Of course. Otherwise you would be destroying your teeth. But these same date seeds contain substances that increase testosterone levels, researchers at Sadat City University in Egypt discovered. According to their animal studies, tea made from ground date seeds has a significant testosterone-boosting effect.Study
Sahar Hassan Orabia and Sherif Mohamed Shawkyb experimented with 2 groups of lab rats. They gave the animals in the control group standard chow for 2 months. Animals in the experimental group were given a water-based date seed extract daily in addition to their standard diet.

The researchers made date seed tea. How exactly, you can see below. Click on the text for a larger version.

If the rats had been adult humans, they would have been administered 20-25 milliliters of date-seed tea daily. That is a little more than half a shot glass. Results
Date seed tea supplementation increased testosterone levels by 39 percent and hemoglobin levels by 21 percent. The concentration of antioxidant enzymes in the testes increased. This is probably the mechanism behind the rise in testosterone levels.

As far as the Egyptians could tell, date seed tea had no side effects. The concentration of creatinine in the blood of the animals decreased due to supplementation. This suggests that the kidneys started to function a little better.

The concentration of the liver enzyme ALT decreased in the experimental group. This suggests that the date seed tea made the liver healthier.

Epilogue
The results of the Egyptian study are in line with the Chinese study we wrote about for a few weeks. According to this research, pollen from date palms increased testosterone levels.

Which substances in date pollen and date seeds cause this pro-androgenic and pro-anabolic effect? We have no idea...
