Human study: TWK10 increases endurance subjects by 58 percent

The probiotic bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum TWK10 can do something that no other probiotic can do. It makes muscles grow. At least in animal studies. There is not yet any human research to confirm this claim. But human research that suggests that Lactobacillus plantarum TWK10 is interesting for athletes? You don't have to search long for that...

Lactobacillus plantarum TWK10 is not yet on the market, but that will soon change. Taiwanese SynbioTech has developed a technology to produce the organism on a large scale, and company reps are present at all major trade fairs, summits and symposia to talk about the possibilities of SynbioTech's new organism.

At the same time, SynbioTech is acquiring the patents for the use of TWK as a slimming aid, performance enhancer and muscle builder. It is remarkable that a new name for Lactobacillus plantarum TWK10 pops up in those patents: LP10.

Study
In the meantime the research continues. Some human studies are now underway, and one human study has recently been published in the Chinese Journal of Physiology. The authors are affiliated with various Taiwan universities, and their research is funded by the Taiwanese government.

In the study, the researchers divided 16 healthy men aged 18-40 into 2 groups. One group took a placebo every day for 6 weeks, the other capsules with Lactobacillus plantarum TWK10.

The men in the experimental group took a capsule with 1 X 1011 CFUs after each meal.

Results
When the 6 weeks were over, the men had to run as long as possible on a treadmill with an intensity of 85 percent of their maximum oxygen uptake [VO2max]. The men who had used Lactobacillus plantarum TWK10 were able to maintain this 58 percent longer than the men in the placebo group.

When the researchers analyzed the men's blood after the exercise, they found no effect of the supplementation on the concentration of lactic acid or ammonia, creatine kinase [CK] or the concentration of free fatty acids [FFA].

Mechanism
What the researchers did find was a higher glucose level in the men who had received Lactobacillus plantarum TWK10.

The easiest explanation for this is that supplementation with the super bacterium had ensured that the test subjects could absorb more glucose from their diet. And that is also the explanation that the researchers put forward in their publication.

We, the ignorant but arrogant compilers of this free web magazine, honestly do not believe that it is that simple, but we keep our theory to ourselves for a while.

Almost forgot. The researchers found no side effects.

Conclusion
"Our results suggest that Lactobacillus plantarum TWK10 is safe for use with the potential for further development, especially in sports science", the researchers conclude.
