Extra vitamin D speeds up recovery after coronavirus infection
It is undeniable that an optimal vitamin D3 status protects against the ever-intrusive coronavirus. So there is everything to be said for vitamin D3 supplementation. Even if you have already ended up in the hospital, a supplement with extra vitamin D3 can improve your perspectives. Even if you take the darn supplement for only 2 weeks...

Study

Doctors from King Saud University in Saudi Arabia divided 69 patients hospitalized with a mild to moderate corona infection into 2 groups. One group was given a daily supplement of 1000 IU of vitamin D3 for 2 weeks, and the other group received 5000 IU of vitamin D3 daily. The researchers used a product from Synergy Pharma, a manufacturer that operates from Dubai. Results
In the blood of the subjects who took 5000 IU of vitamin D3 daily, the vitamin D level rose slightly. This didn't happen with the other group's vitamin D level. Click on the figure below for a larger version.

The subjects in the 5000 IU group recovered faster across the board than the subjects in the 1000 IU group. The subjects in the former group were able to taste normal again after 11 days on average. In the patients in the other group, this was not the case until after 17 days.

Patients in the 5000 IU group were relieved of their cough after 6 days on average. In the 1000 IE group this took 9 days.
The associations were still statistically significant after the researchers adjusted for height, gender, BMI and D-dimer [say: blood clots].
Conclusion
"The present findings add to the growing body of evidence on the beneficial effects of vitamin D supplementation against COVID-19, particularly among those with suboptimal levels", write the resesearchers.
