Kai Greene Beat Phil Heath In At Least One Mr. Olympia

Paul Dillett shares his thoughts on Phil Heath’s physique and legacy.

While Paul Dillett was not a Mr. Olympia champion, he is truly a mass monster legend in his own right. His physique is seen as one of the best and his name has gone down in history alongside a short list of bodybuilding names. That’s why we wanted to ask his opinion on Phil Heath’s Olympia legacy and the quality of his physique. What’s Dillett’s personal opinion on The Gift? In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Paul Dillett reacts to Phil Heath’s physique and explains why he preferred Kai Greene.

During Phil Heath‘s reign as Mr. Olympia champion, Kai Greene was often right behind him ready to strike and take over through throne. That never ended up happening, but there were many close calls during their battles on stage. The competition was so close that many fans often state that they think Kai deserved to win over Phil in certain Olympia competitions. It appears that Paul Dillett falls under this category as well.

Make no mistake. Paul Dillett believes that Phil Heath is an amazing competitor that deserves his status as a legend. But when it comes to personal preference, he preferred Kai Greene’s physique overall. Not only that but he also felt that Kai Greene deserved the Olympia win in “one or two” competitions.

Paul Dillett admits this is his personal opinion and holds no ill will against the final judge decision. Dillett simply finds Kai Greene’s massive rock-solid look over Heath’s. He also enjoyed that Kai was an entertainer as well and focused on unique and impressive posing routines beyond the standard poses.

Despite his personal opinion, he can’t deny that Phil Heath also deserves every Olympia win that he received and more than deserves his legendary status. The Kai vs Phil narrative is entertaining for sure – but ultimately both of these competitors were the best of the best. In order to achieve a level so closely competitive between the two took extreme work and talent rarely seen in sports.

So what can aspiring bodybuilders do to reach that kind of level? We also asked Paul Dillett to share advice he would give to upcoming generations in the sport. While he didn’t focus on how to build the best physique, he did focus on how to ensure longevity in bodybuilding success.

He explains that competitive bodybuilding doesn’t last forever. Sadly, it the end can come even earlier than you expect. So what is most important is how to brand yourself, become your own boss, and become valuable outside of whether you win or lose.

Paul Dillett explains that you can not win a single major title and still become a successful bodybuilder financially. It’s key to think critically from the start on how to become successful both on and off the stage. When it’s all over, you can end up like Dillett himself. He has his own league and his own business to oversee. It brings him joy due to his passion and financial security beyond his bodybuilding victories.
