The last several months have been a whirlwind of political posts being plastered across the internet and social media. Mainstream media is pushing a certain agenda. Politicians are trying to shove their viewpoints down all of our throats. And in the end, what has this solved? Not a damn thing. Politics will always be politics. There will always be division. So, how am I tying in the fitness and supplement industry with politics?

THE 2021 RETURN OF KEVIN LEVRONE?

by Christian Duque

Bodybuilding fans throughout the world know the name Kevin Levrone. When they think of him they think of a great time in the sport of bodybuilding. The 1990’s was a cutting-edge era in the sport. It was a continuation to a decade where the sport was looking to find itself. The 80’s started with familiar faces making comebacks, with Arnold winning in 1980 and Franco in 1981. It wasn’t either bodybuilder’s best, but it was good enough to add titles to their already impressive resumes. In 1982 the sport saw the victory of Chris Dickerson and in 1983 a big win by The Lion of Lebanon, Samir Bannout. By 1984, the Totally Awesome Lee Haney won his first contest and would remain solidly in place until 1991. No other Mr. Olympia had won eight in a row and this run was packed full of exciting battles.

In the days immediately preceding the full takeover of social media platforms, magazines were still read by most, and bodybuilding podcasts were in full swing. People congregated at message boards, where mods and admins did their best to control the direction of the sport, while fans posted incessantly. It wasn’t just fans who got into it, though. You had big names, like the subject of today’s article, the one and only, Derek Anthony. Derek was the real deal; from his days at RXMuscle, pushing GAT, and then on his own, with The DA Show, Anthony was one of the fastest rising stars of his time.

A recent article in Fitness Volt stating that it was likely the 2021 Arnold Classic would be postponed to September, has many talking in the fitness industry. Interestingly, the promoters of the event have stated they will make an announcement on dates this week, throughout their official platforms. It seems FV broke the story, so kudos to them on that, and also kudos to event staff for not keeping the public wondering what’s going on. That being said, it is early January 2021 and by this point most fans have already long made hotel reservations and booked airline tickets for the March event.

I will start by stating this entire article is MY OPINION, and you can disagree, agree, not give two cow patties, I don’t care. But something needs to be said as this issue has gone too far, and someone needs to speak up. To give you a quick backstory, Women’s Fitness magazine posted on their Twitter account about heading outdoors to “burn off those Christmas calories,” and Cosmopolitan put extremely overweight women on their cover with the title, “This is Healthy!”

Well, in December 2020, Joe had comedian Tony Hinchcliffe on his podcast as a guest, and the subject of testosterone came up. If you want to go back and check it out, it’s episode #1586, and the topic starts around the 34-minute mark.

WHO’S USING CREATINE TODAY?

Back many moons ago, when I was in high school, I remember strength coaches raving about a new supplement called creatine. It was natural, non-hormonal, and it was very effective. Back then, a 300g tub ran for about $100; today that same tub can be had for as little as $10. Now granted, you get what you pay for and $10 for 300g of creatine in 2021 is probably not high grade at all, but it’s not some kind of creatine.
