Has anyone had pain to the right side clavical area, more towards the neck area? When I do shrugs or even bench press I have this stabbing pain to that area. The only thing I can think of that I did wrong was doing shrugs beyond my capabilities. There was no pain immediately after the shrugs but since then the pain is getting worse. When I try to do dumbell presses the pain comes immediately when I roll on my back and try to lift the weight, even at 25 # dumbells. I used to lift 115 # :( I was thinking it might be a referred pain from back or spine area. Help please. Thanks.

What type of pain is it and where exactly is it? Do you have any trouble breathing at all?

The pain is a sharp stabbing pain and its not constant. If I stand straight with arms to side, no pain. If I do front lateral raises I activate the pain. If you grab the collar bone in the area right below the ear area, the pain is right where your fingertips are. I try to press that area but I cant pinpoint where its coming from. That area is not tender or sore when pressed. If I reach over with my right hand and press the under arm pit of my left arm the pain comes. No breathing issues

Thanks guys, I will probably get a doctor to check it out. It's really hampering my lifting and making me soooo frustraded.

Just to clarify that its not when I press the under arm area of my left arm. Its the motion of doing that manuver is when I feel the pain in my collar bone. Thanks.

can i know were you doing the exercises of your shoulders before?? if yes then i think you have given too much stress on your shoulders and which has cause some internal damage or swelling in your muscles of shoulders and i would advice to consult a physiotherapist for your problem and try to avoid the exercise for some days as the case may get worst

Thanks for the advise people. I hope nobody has to deal with this problem because it SUCKS!!! One thing good about this is that I'm targeting my legs now. I don't have sticks for legs but it needed some attention haha. I'll keep you guys posted on my recovery. PS Daniell, I was doing those exercises before but not at the heavy weight I put on there. I use the smith, smyth machine with 45 lb plates on each side doing back and frontal shrugs. I then increased the weight to 3 x 45 lb plates on each side and thats when I think I pulled, broke or ripped something. Now I cant even do the single 45 lb plate on each side. Thanks again.

Bro, sounds like you have bursitis. I had your exact symptoms about six months ago around my shoulder area. Your bursa, or sac that holds the fluid in the shoulder joint, can become inflamed and painful from excessive movement. Basically, (INFLAMMATION TO THE JOINT) repetitive lifting also can lead to bursitis. Go to your doctor and get a cortisone shot, increase your water intake, and you will be lifting in a week. In the mean time, start strengthening the muscles surrounding the shoulder area. This will help relieve the pressure causing the inflammation and allow you to continue lifting.

I wish you a speedy recovery bro!

Agreed, x rays will work if its a fx but i would consider an mri secondary just incase the problem is refrred pain from a rotater cuff injury. Always keep in mind that pain is the bodies way of telling us there is a problem. Good luck and dont delay

Hi guys,
Just an update to my pain. I rested from lifting for about a week straight. The pain is almost gone!! I feel like its still there but there is no stabbing pain anymore. What a relief. I will try to lift today because I'm missing it badly. I'll pay a little more attention to my form and capability. Thanks again for the advice.
