I’m going to get a ton of hate for this article, but it is what it is. This is my opinion, and just like assholes, we all have one. I first want to say that I have the utmost respect for Flex Lewis. This article is not a knock at him or any type of “hate” in any sense of the word. However, what I’m about to say is going to probably cause a massive reaction either in one direction or the other.

Part-Time Vegans In The Fitness Industry?

What the hell is a part-time vegan? Lol. Apparently, there are folks who secretly drink milk, eat meat, wear leather and, maybe, also hunt, but they’re vegans for the cameras. Since when is being vegan such a sought after dietary preference? Well, since Subway, Burger King, and even Kentucky Fried Chicken rolled out plant-based options.

Milk thistle, also known as Silybum marianum, is a common yet not so popular plant. It is native to Southern Europe and Asia and has various medicinal properties, and is commonly used in the US in the form of milk thistle supplements. The plant itself has prickly leaves with purple flowers and white veins. It’s known as milk thistle because the plant oozes out white liquid when cut.

Flex Lewis does not need to compete. His legacy is beyond reproach – it’s held in the highest regard, by fans, the industry, and competitors -both amateur and pro, active and retired. Yamamoto isn’t asking him to compete. Monster could care less. Lewis isn’t hard-up for cash. And between his gym, links to MMA, and his vast social media reach, competing at the 2022 Mr. Olympia is more a personal goal than anything else.

Over the course of the last couple weeks a flurry of videos have made their way onto YouTube, all parroting the information released on a recent Stanimal interview with Generation Iron. While I don’t fault the network for speaking with Shawn Rhoden’s longtime friend, training partner, and roommate, I don’t know that much information was discovered. We all knew, or suspected, that Shawn passed as a result of a heart attack. It’s become well known that Flexatron had suffered a heart attack before the one which he succumbed to, and it was also well known that the family had declined doing an autopsy.

Shut Up NSP – George Petersen Autopsy Coverage

I have said it so many times, that what’s one more time, right? You guys know me, I don’t like writing articles about death. I will, of course, cover the passing of great athletes in our sport, out of respect. Beyond that, I’m not the type of writer to recycle stories and milk tragedies to get hits. I don’t get down like that, nor does Iron Magazine. This article, however, speaks to the abysmally poor quality of bodybuilding “journalism,” today.
