BRANDON CURRY – THE OTHER MR. OLYMPIA

Whereas last year could have seen as many as 4 Mr. Olympias on one stage, this year is equally interesting in that it has two battling it out. We haven’t had an Olympia where the two Mr. O’s on stage are single title winners, in a long, long time. This kind of reminds me of 1985, when Samir battled Haney. At the time, they both had a Sandow each, but it was pretty obvious to all who was going to win that showdown. Haney totally redefined the sport. Similarly, there weren’t many who thought Dexter could topple Heath in 2012 – though it was, at least, plausible. Is it pretty obvious Ramy is going to win in 2021?

RONNIE COLEMAN GETS ARNOLD LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

When Arnold Schwarzenegger awards 8x Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman the Lifetime Achievement award at the contest bearing his name, it’s enough to give any bodybuilding fan goosebumps. We often talk about growing the sport of bodybuilding, what it takes to make the sport a household name, and what being a good ambassador is all about. To a certain extent, a lot of that is, simply, lip service. There’s really no litmus test to verify what grows the sport and what doesn’t, but ultimately whenever the fans are happy, that’s usually a great sign. Happy fans tend to share the sport on their platforms and that’s where I’d say the sport really reaches more people.

EXERCISE IS GREAT, BUT PROPER NUTRITION IS THE CATALYST FOR RESULTS

While many are in search of a magic pill to swallow to miraculously transform their physique with a blink of an eye, others are out there grinding it out in the gym. I commend those who are committed and schedule time every day to exercise and make it a priority. Yet, the one thing many fail to realize is that exercise is simply one piece of the equation. And when you’re looking at the overall percentage when it comes to achieving results, you’ll notice that exercise is actually a small portion. What ultimately makes up the bulk of your results is proper nutrition.

Let’s play a game. If you can guess what I’m talking about, you win! It’s legal, it makes your heart race, it curbs your appetite and it’s everywhere! It’s calorie-free, most products get away without telling you how much their goods contain, and it can send you to a hospital bed, if not to the grave, when you consume too much, too soon. Do you know what we’re talking about? If you said caffeine, you win!!

NICK WALKER WINS THE ARNOLD CLASSIC

In what could only be described as a win that shocked the world, Nick Walker won the second most prestigious event in bodybuilding. Just one day out from the contest, I penned an article for Iron Magazine, where I asked the question, what if Walker won? What would that mean for his career, for the media, and for the upcoming days leading up to the most important contest in the sport, the prestigious 2021 Mr. Olympia, held once again, in Orlando, FL. I talked about the dynamic of the Arnold, being so close to the O. This is the first – and only – year to date, where the two biggest contests were less than a month from each other.

WHAT IF NICK WALKER WINS THE ARNOLD?

Bodybuilding fans are starting to lose their minds, as the 2021 Arnold Classic is just days away. Iron Magazine readers have also made themselves heard. They want to see if we cover the possibility of a Walker victory at the second most important bodybuilding contest on the circuit. This year’s event is notably different, for a variety of reasons, but different isn’t always bad. Although the event is usually held in Spring, the fact the event is now in September and just a rock’s throw from the Olympia, makes the impact on the sport that much greater.

Do you own a fitness business? What are you doing to network and build your business and awareness? Anything? Do you utilize social media? While platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest are flooded with fitness professionals, there is one platform that is underutilized, in my opinion but seems to be gaining some momentum. That platform is… LinkedIn.
