Is Hadi Choopan Fading?

Reigning Mr. Olympia Hadi Choopan has fired warning shots since the big guest posing at the Pittsburgh Pro just a week ago. It featured Olympia runner-up Derek Lunsford looking considerably bigger and very impressive. Lunsford is no longer giving up any size. Ever since he took the stage at the 2022 Mr. Olympia the only thing holding the young former Mr. USA up is height, and bodybuilding isn’t a height contest by any stretch of the imagination. Seeing Derek and guys like Nick Walker hitting poses shows us where the sport might be going.

Should Classic Physique Change?

Once again there’s growing debate over whether or not the height and weight classes observed in the Classic Physique Division should be reexamined. There’s a camp that believes classic needs to grow. The athletes are constrained by the caps that keep each competitor in each division competing within a specified window. The danger with this division, as well as others, is what happens when competitors start getting close to the division markers. For example, if a Classic guy is on the light side of the division it may prompt judges’ feedback in the sense of considering moving down to Men’s Physique. Guys who are on the top end of the division may have to look at either 212 or Open Bodybuilding.

Could Jeremy Buendia Reign Men’s Physique Again?

Whenever I hear this question I tend to chuckle. Anytime someone asks if a multi-year Olympia winner can come back and win again I find it a little silly because when those guys were on top no one would ever think they were beatable. Not only that, but if you even suggested they had any real weaknesses people would read you the riot act. Unlike single year champions, Buendia didn’t win just one title. He also didn’t win the title Marc Anthony did. I have tremendous respect for the first-ever MPD Mr. O; however, at the time no one knew what was required of the new division.
