News of the death of legendary icon Tonya Knight sent shockwaves throughout the world of bodybuilding and fitness. When Shawn Ray tagged me on his post this afternoon I simply couldn’t believe it at first. Knowing how close Shawn and Tonya were the bad news sunk in and I was left wanting answers. Although I never met her, I have countless magazines that featured her. Unlike a great many who read and toss print media, I’ve kept them over the years and also have purchased countless editions from eBay and Amazon.

Who can ever forget when Ronnie was asked about PED’s and he answered “I ain’t never used no steroids” and everyone in the room clapped for him and heckled the poor bastard who asked a very reasonable question. Back in the late 80’s, then Mr. Olympia Lee Haney would spout all sorts of nonsense about taking vitamins, praying, and not using anabolic steroids. That’s what you had to do. It was a different time and these rather harmless compounds that were largely ignored by lawmakers in the 60’s and 70’s were starting to become demonized towards the tail end of the 80’s.

Power Slap – Dana White’s Downfall?

Dana White and TBS have sunk to all-time lows by putting forth a new sport known as Power Slap. This is probably one of the most shameful instances of irresponsibly profiting off the suffering of others. And before anyone tries to draw comparisons between this and other full-contact sports like boxing or MMA, let me point to one glaring distinction. In boxing and MMA athletes actively protect themselves, especially their head from strikes. In Power Slap, the competitor must stand there and take an open blow to the head.
