Big Ramy is Mr. Olympia and as such he is the ambassador of bodybuilding to the world. This title should have spelled out duties and responsibilities but previous champions have been able to read between the lines and do their best to grow the sport. As I’ve stated on a number of occasions I think the time has come to seriously consider implementing a promotional clause to whoever accepts the title in the future. Ramy is the reason for this.

This article isn’t as much about Flex Lewis retiring, as it’s about the failure of two bodybuilding divisions that are essentially separate from one and other. When the news hit that The Welsh Dragon was hanging them up, it sent shockwaves throughout the fitness industry, but it went beyond that. Unlike the current Open Mr. Olympia, Lewis did a fantastic job as the #1 guy in his division. He traveled the world extensively, going to meet-and-greets, huge expos, in-store appearances and posing seminars.

When it was all said and done the man, the myth, the legend Blessing Awodibu emerged victorious. This win was special for a variety of reasons. For starters, a great many people in the industry and more specifically in the media see Irish bodybuilders as a combination of media fanfare, marketing genius and a good physique to boot. His look and muscles often play second fiddle to his over-the-top personality. That’s not a bad thing though.
