Bodybuilding is about creating the perfect physique. You can’t have big arms and no chest; you can’t have a huge torso, standing on toothpicks. You can, ultimately, do whatever you want, but if you aspire to create a look like that of the golden era of the sport, then you need to have symmetry. You may not need to have the kind of flow that’s required to compete at the national level as an amateur or among the elite level of pro bodybuilders, but you need to have balance – that’s what separates bodybuilders from fit people.

I have a simple saying in life… “Don’t start no shit, won’t be no shit.” I’m so sick of hearing about all of this online fat-shaming and “OMG, how dare you say something so mean to someone,” while in the next breath, people are doing the same thing to those who are fit. Fat-shaming… fit-shaming… Honestly, this is all just so stupid.

Hunter Labrada is a bodybuilder who has lived up to the hype; he’s not only met everyone’s expectations, but he’s far surpassed them. To see Hunter on stage, with his legendary father next to him, is both historic and inspiring. As I’ve often said, legacies in bodybuilding, have it harder than most. Not only do they have to do well, in their own right, but they have to do so well, that they are able to command their own following, above and beyond that of their superstar parent(s). That’s a lot harder said than done, especially with how much bodybuilders love the past.

I like Shawn Ray. We started out as a bit of rivals on the Muscular Development forums, but that’s no shocker; we’re both highly opinionated people who say what we want, when we want, and how we want. We don’t really like censorship and we don’t see the point in kissing ass. If your work is good, it’ll speak for itself. Walking on your knees is simply not an option. However, in addition to being an opinionated and strong-principled individual, Shawn is also an IFBB Hall of Fame Bodybuilder, a Top Olympian, a contest emcee, media personality, promoter and more!!

Kayla Itsines is considered to be the “world’s top fitness influencer.” While I consider that to be a longshot, she just sold her fitness empire (along with her business partner) to iFIT in a $400 million acquisition. And honestly, good for her!

In the past, on several occasions, I’ve voiced my frustration with the media when it comes to bodybuilders and what journalists report on. It seems like any time you see the word “bodybuilder” in the news, it’s regarding steroids, “roid rage,” injecting oils that caused adverse effects, murder (ahem, Craig Titus), just about anything negative you can think about is reported. There’s never anything good being said on the news about bodybuilders until this latest story.

212 Mr. Olympia Shaun Clarida has gone above and beyond what most people thought could be done in terms of growing the division he competes in. I say, most people, because I knew all along what he was capable of. After all, he has great predecessors in James “Flex” Lewis and Kamal Elgargni. Although it may seem hard to believe, Shaun is the title’s first American recipient, and he’s been able to do quite a bit to grow the division stateside.

There are some things that just make you shake your head these days. If you pay attention to what’s going on in the world, you would know that issues with airlines have been increasing steadily. It seems like every week we are hearing about something happening on a plane or airport in regard to people being thrown off of planes, people and kids being yelled at for masks/no masks, and this latest one just further shows that those who have an incredible physique are under fire by those who are overweight and obese with what happened to Deniz Saypinar.

While gaining weight is nothing to joke about, people always poke fun at those on their way to college, saying they’ll fall victim to the “Freshman 15.” Well, this pandemic has sent many of us back to school, and we’ve found ourselves watching the scale creep up quite steadily.
