I try to stay on top of the supplement industry and see what supplement brands are doing what and the new products they are releasing. That being said, I recently saw a brand announce they are coming out with a really cool product (I’m not going to name names) but mentioned they will be releasing it nine months from now. Wait… what? I kid you not.

Over the last few weeks, we have witnessed some sad news in the fitness community where gyms have been announcing closures (for good). One such gym chain that seems to be taking the pandemic the worst is Gold’s Gym who has come out and said they will be closing more than 30 locations due to the President and Governors saying gyms must close during these times. Yet, one area that has exploded over the last month is home gym equipment.

It’s always a very painful and sorrowful moment whenever we lose a member of the bodybuilding world. While our industry seems so large and expansive at expos, it’s really a small, tight-knit community and it’s times like these, when everyone comes together. I didn’t know Luke Sandoe, I didn’t talk to him on social media, in fact, I don’t ever think I even met him; however, he helped create something I really, truly, love – bodybuilding.

The world of bodybuilding and fitness breathed a sigh of relief as the news went viral, that the Olympia Weekend would, in fact, be taking place in 2020. Nothing less should have been expected from new owner, Jake Wood, along with his team, led by Dan Solomon, now in his second year in the role of Chief Olympia Officer. This has been, without question, one of the toughest years the fitness industry has ever had to endure.

I’m not sure how or even why MLM supplement companies are still in business, but they are. The unfortunate part is, they’re pushing out products that aren’t anything special, while allowing any Tom, Dick, or Harry without an education or industry background to be out there selling the product. More times than not, they go out there peddling the products to all of their friends and family until they make it to the NFL (no friends left).

When Joe Gold started his gym, that was the beginning of the modern era of bodybuilding. It all started from a small gym, with no frills, and was all about hardcore training. One of the best historians of this time is none other than Ric Drasin, who had a show on IronMag TV. When Joe sold his gym, the owners opened a new location, creating the most state of the art, most spacious, and accommodating training facility in the world. Gold’s Gym Venice became known as The Mecca of Bodybuilding, a distinction it holds till this day. Absolutely everyone, who’s anyone, in our sport, has either visited (or plans to visit), trained there, and/or had a photoshoot there.

Whenever I need a good laugh, I head over to the Generation Iron YouTube channel and play one of their videos. Now, I’m going to start by saying I don’t know Mac Trucc (Wes Boxley). I’ve never met him, never spoken to him, and I have nothing against him. It’s impossible to talk about someone you don’t even know. In fact, I only know of him because of the beef that went down between him and Rich Piana. While I’m not going to talk about Mac Trucc specifically in this article, I am going to touch on some of his comments during a Generation Iron interview where he said the Olympia died after Jay Cutler retired as well as his thoughts on Olympians.

With all of the new energy drinks coming out, it was only a matter of time before Coke decided to come out with their own. I actually wrote an article on this topic last year scratching my head as to why they would want to compete against themselves. The interesting thing is that Coca-Cola also owns Monster Energy who not only has their own line of energy drinks, but also the new Reign line. So, the question becomes, “Is the new Coke Energy Drink going to make a splash or fail and go down the drain?”

A fairly common question I hear come up is when people find themselves in a plateau and can’t seem to get past it and continue seeing the results they were prior. Many change up their caloric intake or macros, some will spend more time doing cardio, some will go to the gym an extra day during week to hit an extra session of resistance training – yet, none of them have thought about the tactic I’ve found to help many people and it’s something you probably never even considered. If you hit a plateau and you can’t break it, try going to a new gym. Say whaaaaaat? It’s true and here’s why.
