HAVE YOU HIT A PLATEAU YOU CAN’T BREAK? TRY A NEW GYM

  • 4 min read

by Matt Weik

A fairly common question I hear come up is when people find themselves in a plateau and can’t seem to get past it and continue seeing the results they were prior. Many change up their caloric intake or macros, some will spend more time doing cardio, some will go to the gym an extra day during week to hit an extra session of resistance training – yet, none of them have thought about the tactic I’ve found to help many people and it’s something you probably never even considered. If you hit a plateau and you can’t break it, try going to a new gym. Say whaaaaaat? It’s true and here’s why.

LEE PRIEST FEUDS WITH GREG DOUCETTE!

Lee Priest has been pretty angry lately. First, he feuded with Masters Mr. World Robert “Bob” Cicherilo, next he battled with industry leader Generation Iron, and now he’s embroiled in a battle with legendary Canadian bodybuilder Greg Doucette. The issue that’s caused the riff is dirty bulking. Lee, who was considered a top bodybuilder about 10-15 years ago, was well known for ballooning up to nearly 300lbs. He loved his KFC fried chicken, biscuits drizzled in honey, and pretty much anything he could get his hands on. Lee would get humongous, but his logic was, by bulking to these heavy numbers, he’d gain muscle in the process of losing all that fat. The reality is, dirty bulking is, largely, considered broscience, meathead logic, and otherwise totally bunk by most contest prep coaches.

BODYBUILDING’S BEST SHOULDN’T BATTLE TROLLS ONLINE

The advent of social media brought about a totally new way of looking at things. Over the course of the last twenty years, we’ve seen the role of television change, we’ve seen movies go from stores to automated machines to strictly online. Everything changes and those who can’t change, simply go out of business. Those who are really successful, don’t just adapt, they’re constantly looking for the next big thing, and they’re always ready to switch up their game. Social media is no different. If you were big on Myspace, you had to be ready to make the jump to Facebook, from there you had to be ready to jump to Instagram, and from there, you had to be ready to jump to Tiktok.

I WAS WRONG… 2020 BODYBUILDING WILL BE UNIMPRESSIVE AT BEST

Earlier this year I wrote an article about how bodybuilding fans were going to get the experience of a lifetime with the 2020 bodybuilding season. Boy, was I wrong! Who would have thought something as crazy as a pandemic would be hitting the world and shutting everything down – causing the bodybuilding season to be put on the backburner for the time being with shows being canceled left and right?

WHAT EXACTLY IS GENERATION IRON TRYING TO DO WITH THEIR PLATFORM?

When Generation Iron first hit the scene and started producing content, I was excited to see what they were going to bring to the industry. It seemed like in the beginning their intentions were good and their YouTube channel grew to over 354k subscribers but quickly things turned south, and it made me wonder what Generation Iron is trying to do and accomplish with their platform?

When you’re dealing with the best athlete, of any sport, you’re dealing with someone who’s given their absolute all, who truly strives for excellence, and will not quit in the face of adversity. In physique-based sports, the single, undisputed, best competitor of each and every division, must win at the Olympia level. There is no other contest, anywhere, that can bestow that distinction. With bodybuilding, the best in the world is Brandon Curry. As the winner of the flagship division, he’s not only the face of bodybuilding, but he is the face of all physique-based sports throughout the world. This is a very important responsibility that he has lived up to fully, from even before Day 1. Other champions, in other eras, can hardly say the same.

If you’ve spent any time in the industry or have been a fan of bodybuilding for a while, a name you have probably heard (and not for good reasons) is Craig Titus. In fact, the name Craig Titus as well as his ex-wife, Kelly Ryan, are two highly searched names on Google. Both Craig Titus and Kelly Ryan were competitors in the fitness and bodybuilding industry, Craig is an IFBB Pro Bodybuilder where he competed in the 90s and 2000s and Kelly as a fitness competitor.

CHRIS CORMIER BETTER THAN FLEX WHEELER?

Bodybuilding is a sport all about comparisons. The judges scrutinize physiques and oftentimes comparisons are necessary to determine placings. There’s guys who excel with shape and condition, others push the mass card, and some are such great posers, they can hide any flaw and still seem perfect. The media also loves to compare competitors, as it provides them with article ideas and program bylines to run with. But the folks who love to compare the athletes the most, would have to be the fans.

The Feud Between Bob Cicherillo & Lee Priest

To put things into perspective, there’s been a lot of feuds as of late, probably a product of the sheer boredom brought upon by the COVID 19 pandemic, the fact contests have been either cancelled or postponed, and the general direction that the fitness media has taken. Whether it’s one man acts on youtube or it’s bodybuilding networks, there’s an undeniable segment of the press that sees great value in fake news, clickbait, and stirring up drama.

DOES SERGIO OLIVA JR HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE THE LAST MAN STANDING?

The sport of bodybuilding runs deep in the veins of Sergio Oliva Jr. What his dad has accomplished in the sport has been nothing short of amazing. The fact that Sergio decided to follow in his dad’s footsteps is quite honestly a bold move. So many athletes have tried to emulate their father and failed miserably. That being said, I think the way Sergio has been progressing and transforming his physique over the years could make his father incredibly proud.
