BRAD ROWE’S KETO AIN’T PALUMBO’S KETO!

by Christian Duque

You know you’re in the off-season when two bodybuilders are bickering over whose keto approach is superior to the other. In all fairness, IFBB Pro Brad Rowe isn’t so much bickering, he did take a dig at RxMuscle’s Dave Palumbo on Fouad Abiad’s Real Bodybuilding Podcast. Apparently, Brad favors more fat whereas Palumbo favors more protein, but he wasn’t looking to create any drama. Rowe from what I gather, believes that too much protein will kick someone out of ketosis, while Palumbo argues that so long as protein is utilized correctly. And that won’t kick someone one out of ketosis and will actually help physique-based athletes relative to muscle-building, muscle-retention, and overall success on stage.

SUPPLEMENT SCIENCE NO LONGER A SELLING POINT?

by Matt Weik

I was recently reading an article that made me stop and actually think about the science behind supplements these days and the consumer buying habits. The article talked about how supplement science really isn’t a huge selling point these days as consumers expect there to be science and research surrounding the products they are purchasing. This raised two major questions for me. The first question is, “Are consumers naïve to think that all supplements will actually have research behind them?” and the second question, “Is supplement science no longer as big of a deal as it once was in the supplement manufacturer’s eyes?”

7x 212 Olympia Showdown Champion, James “Flex” Lewis accepted a special invitation to compete at the biggest contest in bodybuilding. Ever since his last win in 2018, everyone has been speculating if in fact The Welsh Dragon would reemerge in the open category, giving his all to win a Sandow. For years, writers and fans would compare Lewis to 7x Mr. Olympia Phil Heath.

WILL SUPPLEMENT BRANDS CONTINUE TO COLLABORATE WITH INFLUENCERS?

To say that influencers aren’t powerful these days is a massive oversight. Influencers have been helping brands grow for years and it’s no different when it comes to supplement brands. Look at the Kardashians. You mean to tell me they aren’t helping sales when they post about a product or promote something? Think the influence Kylie Jenner has helped build her Kylie Cosmetics line? Of course, it did! She can also thank her parents and celebrity status for making her a billionaire at the age of 21 – not too shabby, right?

DOES BLESSING AWODIBU HAVE A PRAYER AT WINNING ARNOLD AUSTRALIA?

If you’ve never heard of Blessing Awodibu, where have you been? This man could hands down be the funniest dude in bodybuilding. His antics, social media skits, and posts should have you laughing so hard, your sides hurt. They call him “The Boogieman” and while his appearance could be intimidating, there’s not a mean bone in this man’s body.

THE VITAMIN SHOPPE OPENS UP LOCATIONS INSIDE LA FITNESS GYMS

I recently heard the news that The Vitamin Shoppe and LA Fitness have joined forces and that to kick off their new partnership, Vitamin Shoppe has moved inside a total of nine LA Fitness locations throughout New Jersey, New York, and Florida. This is an extremely interesting move by both parties and one that I think we should take a look at as I feel there’s a huge opportunity for other businesses to copy this very model (if they haven’t already).

BREAKING THE OLYMPIA – PHIL HEATH’S NETFLIX SERIES

A new Netflix series, titled “Breaking The Olympia,” is said to be in the works, featuring 7x Mr. Olympia Phil “The Gift” Heath. I just checked out an interesting interview clip between the legend and Muscular Development’s Giles “Tiger” Thomas. In the interview, Phil insists he doesn’t want to cry over the past, but it’s clear he holds some disdain for Generation Iron and their portrayal of him in the major motion picture. Heath, who had historic battles during his tenure as the world’s greatest bodybuilder, was nearly edged out in 2016 and eventually toppled in 2018 by Shawn “Flexatron” Rhoden. Despite being injured and off, Phil gave it all he had in 2018, but it would not be enough to stop the Flexatron Train from crashing through Phil’s beleaguered opposition. The 7x champ really battled, though his efforts, in the face of Rhoden’s onslaught, proved hopeless.

BIG RAMY GETTING DICED UP!

We’ve been hearing more and more about Big Ramy as he prepares to compete at his first-ever Arnold Classic in just under five weeks time. The truth of the matter is 2019 was a rough year for The Egyptian Phenom. In 2017, he was on top of the world, with a very impressive runner-up at the Mr. Olympia, giving then champion Phil Heath a pretty good run for his money. 2018 should have been his year, but it wasn’t.

CAN MEN TRAIN WITH WOMEN AND VICE VERSA?

by Matt Weik

For some reason, there seems to be this stereotype that men and women cannot coexist in the weight room or be training partners. Some women are even deathly afraid of stepping in the weight room due to the amount of testosterone in the air (that’s somewhat a joke). But In all seriousness, many women are afraid of venturing into the weight room because they are afraid of looking like a man from lifting weights but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
