IS WILLIAM BONAC PROVING TO THE INDUSTRY THAT GURUS ARE WORTHLESS?

  • 6 min read

by Matt Weik

If you’ve been following William Bonac, you would have seen the video (or at least heard) of the beef between him and his former coach Neil “Yoda” Hill. He made it apparent in his 2019 video that he doesn’t think all too highly of Neil. In the video, he mentions that he fired Neil Hill and he was sick of giving him his hard-earned money for what he alleged was for nothing. With the success that Bonac has had, it may open the dialogue as to if industry gurus are even worth working with.

If you’re reading this article at the time that it was published, you’re probably sitting in your home in isolation practicing social distancing – or whatever ridiculous term they want to call it. Your current joy is telling everyone your cool activities for the day. Like going to the living room to read a book, later in the day venturing out to the back patio for some fresh air because you’re feeling rebellious. So, what do you do in times like these where the Coronavirus has caused many businesses to close and you’re supposed to figure out how to make the most of your time off? I have a few ideas that will help you come out of this self-quarantine (AKA, come close to me and I’ll be forced to throat-punch you) a better person.

GYMS, RESTAURANTS, AND SUPERMARKETS…

It seems the Coronavirus has had a severe impact, not only on our normal way of life, but in some of the basic elements therein. For example, all gyms where I live, closed effective Wednesday at 5PM. They didn’t close for the day – they closed indefinitely. Where will gym goers go to train? How will gym owners earn a profit to stay in business? Will their bills be suspended while this pandemic gets addressed? These are all fine questions and valid concerns, and the government really doesn’t have any concrete answers.

VICTOR BLACK – TODAY’S ENHANCEMENT GURU?

Oh, what a tangled web we weave. The Internet, aka the World Wide Web, contains at least 6.23 billion pages, with millions of them focusing on bodybuilding and fitness. We could narrow this down, while dialing in on performance enhancing supplements and drugs, and the content would still have a page count in the millions. The content on the Internet is vast to say the least, and it is very easy to get tangled in everything the Internet has to offer if you aren’t careful.

The 2020 Arnold Classic will go down in history for a variety of reasons. For starters, it brought together one of the best lineups in the history of the sport. You had former champions in William Bonac, Cedric McMillan, and Dexter Jackson all in the mix. You had rising stars like Patrick Moore making some waves. Big Ramy made a return after a year-long absence, looking a lot like in the old days. Sergio Oliva Jr. looked extremely impressive, even earning The Best Poser Award. Cedric made Top 6. It was also great to see veteran competitors really nail it, guys like Maxx Charles and Akim Williams. One veteran competitor who really made jaws drop was Steve Kuclo, who placed 4th, showing vast improvements.

Hold up there, Oxygen Gym – there’s a new sheriff in town! Carbon Culture is looking to change the way bodybuilders, powerlifters, and athletes view gyms. Gone are the days of picking things up and putting them down, only to leave the gym and need to go elsewhere to get your nutrition, your knowledge, and your entertainment. Carbon Culture brings you everything under one roof! And to be honest, I’m fanboying over here.

BE EXTRA CAREFUL AT YOUR GYM IN REGARD TO CORONAVIRUS

I want to preface this article by stating, I feel that the mainstream media is blowing the coronavirus scare out of proportion – like they do with everything else they report about that involves bad news or negativity. It’s as if these journalists and media producers are sitting at their desk praying for something bad to happen so they can cover it all day long and put the fear of God in their viewers. Meanwhile, they put all the good things going on in the world on the backburner.
